A Proven Program --
The Royal City Power Skating School has been teaching Guelph Skaters since 1973. The school's teaching philosophy and the program has remained solid and successful.
The 50 minute skating session begins promptly with a stretching warm-up.The skaters then meet as a full group for the Circle Lesson. This whole ice lesson focuses on the fundamentals of solid skating, changing each session to cover the various skills such as power strides, stops, backward skating, turns and balances. The skater are able to practice the skill, using the full ice surface. Skaters then break into smaller groups for more detailed instruction and practice on skills at their Power Skater Badge Level. An endurance/fitness circuit is set up for the remainder of the session.
New this season is "Power On", a 5 week session through March and April which will have a slightly different format and focus on endurance, balance and agility.
Excellent Coaches --
Most Coaches for The Royal City Power Skating School are graduates of the program. They are dedicated professionals with backgrounds in figure skating, power skating and/or hockey. Some of our coaches are also school teachers, bringing with them solid teaching practices.
Badge Program --
The Royal City Power Skating School follows a 7 badge program, initially created by the National Power Skating Association. Each level focuses on the fundamentals of good skating including forward and backward skating, stops, balances, edges and agility. The badge levels build in difficulty and complexity from Power 1 to Power 7. Each skater receives a Report Card of their progress, and cloth badges they have passed, at the end of each session.
